Dr. Anita Walton

Owner/DVM

Dr. Anita Walton’s path to veterinary medicine began in a rather unusual way. Originally an art major, she later worked for the postal service before discovering the NVCC veterinary technology program. That moment was a turning point. Once she entered the world of veterinary medicine, she knew she had found her true calling. After becoming a licensed veterinary technician, her curiosity and drive to do more led her to pursue veterinary school. She completed her veterinary degree at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, which at the time was one of the country’s newer programs. She worked at two other practices, then branched out on her own in 1992.

Her early years in practice allowed her to gain experience in small animal medicine, but she had a vision for something more. She also began studying holistic medicine, which she felt very drawn to. She eventually decided that she wanted her own practice, so she could combine conventional veterinary medicine with holistic therapies, offering patients the best of both worlds. In 1996, after looking for an underserved area for the new clinic, Dr. Walton and her parents moved to Locust Grove and started work. Before the clinic’s doors officially opened, she made house calls, providing care directly in the community.

Education has remained a cornerstone of Dr. Walton’s career. In addition to her formal veterinary degree, she has pursued ongoing training in holistic approaches, surgery, and canine behavior. Her current studies include advanced coursework with the Canine Behaviour College in the UK. She is also working toward bachelor-level training in Applied Clinical Behaviour. This unique educational path allows her to integrate behavioral medicine into her practice, helping pet owners not only address health issues, but also strengthen their bonds with their pets through better training, understanding, and communication.

Dr. Walton’s lifelong love of animals has been shaped by the many pets she has called family, including four “heart dogs,” who each played a special role in her life and learning. Today, her Border Terriers, Zuzu and Jack, keep her busy with search work, trick training, and preparing for breed competition. Her experiences with her own pets have fueled her belief that animals are some of our greatest teachers.

In practice, Dr. Walton most enjoys direct patient care and the relationships she builds with both pets and their people. She is especially passionate about helping animals heal, stay healthy, and thrive through a thoughtful blend of medical science and holistic support. For her, every day in veterinary medicine is an opportunity to keep learning, teaching, and serving the community she has loved since the day Locust Grove Veterinary Clinic first opened its doors.

Dr. Jeremee Lewis

Veterinarian

Dr. Jeremee Lewis was raised in central Kentucky. He attended Eastern Kentucky University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 2013. Following his undergraduate career, he moved to Auburn Alabama where he attended Auburn University College of Veterinary medicine, and graduated in 2017. Completing his veterinary degree, he returned to Kentucky to begin working as a small animal practitioner. During his time in Kentucky, he noticed a need to learn ASL (American Sign Language) in order to better communicate with his deaf client. Dr. Lewis is not fluent in ASL, however, he is comfortable enough to hold a conversation and strives to improve his skills.

In 2019, Dr. Lewis moved to Virginia and began developing his skills in rehabilitation/physiotherapy medicine. He became certified in Canine Physiotherapy and has been using his skills to help improve the comfort and mobility of many dogs and cats.

Dr. Lewis professional interests are orthopedic, and neurological cases, although he is comfortable handling a variety of cases. When not at work, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his family, his pets and being outdoors on nice days.
